The international comparison of hours of work in seven countries in 2004: France's position
Mireille Bruyère, Odile Chagny, Valérie Ulrich, Serge Zilberman
France was compared to six other countries with very varied hours of work: Germany, Italy, Spain, Holland, the United Kingdom and the United States. The legal weekly number of hours of work for full-time workers in France is less than the legal or conventional number of hours of work in other countries. France's declared weekly number of hours worked is also lower than in the majority of the other countries. However, France is in the mid-position if the weekly number of hours of work of all full and part-time workers is taken into consideration. This is also the case for the actual annual hours worked, which takes into account different types of holidays, absences and overtime.
