Prevention, daily activities and screening

Nathalie Guignon, Nathalie Lydié, Yara Makdessi-Raynaud

Diet, sports activities, screening and vaccinations are all examples of preventive activities. At the start of 2000, a survey in France gave detailed information about some of these activities. More than 80% of people aged 18 and over claimed that they ate a «quite balanced» or «well-balanced» diet. More than four in ten people, mostly aged below 25 years and over 45 years, claimed to regularly practice sport. With regard to the prevention of cervical and breast cancer, the majority of women claimed to be regularly screened as recommended by health policies. However, screening for colon cancer remained much less widespread. HIV screening tests were most often carried out as part of a routine check, yet tests for hepatitis C were carried out on the initiative of the GP. Finally, 70% of 18-24 year-olds had been vaccinated against hepatitis B.
