Sport in France; reflecting social class
Lara Muller
In 2003, 71% of people aged 15 years or over practised a physical or sporting activity, if only occasionally. Young people are the keenest on sport. Students, graduates, those in employment or those simply enjoying a high standard of living are more likely to take up a sport, with reduced differences between men and women. These factors also condition the choice of physical and sporting activities and the way in which they are undertaken. Young or qualified people, and those well integrated socially practise the most diverse range of sports, and better-off sections of society use institutional facilities.
