There is a greater concentration of state employees in the regions south of the area from Pays de la Loire to Rhône-Alpes, with the exception of certain northern regions, such as Île-de-France, Nord-Pas-de-Calais or Haute-Normandie. Conversely, the state hospital system has a far smaller presence in the south than in the north. The localisation of state employees occurs along a north-east/south-west axis corresponding to the regions with the lowest population density. State employment occupies a particularly important place in those regions with a weak demographic or economic dynamism. The proportion of assisted jobs in state employment is greatest in the regions most affected by unemployment. Managers within the state system, including teachers, tend to be located in Île-de-France and in the east of the country. With the exception of teachers, the distribution of management positions is more even, remaining highest in Île-de-France, Alsace and Rhône-Alpes.
