Insee in the European Statistical System
The increased integration of the European Union has strengthened the need for European statistics.
Eurostat, one of the Directorates-General of the European Commission, is responsible for conducting EU policy where it relates to statistics.
Insee is an active contributor to these European studies, either as a direct participant, or by coordinating the positions of the different Ministerial Statistical Departments.
These actions are carried out at two levels:
- drafting and adoption of European Union legislation relating to statistics,
- production and communication of data.
European Statistical System (ESS)
The ESS is the partnership between the EU statistical authority, consisting of the Commission (Eurostat), National Statistical Institutes (NSIs), and other national authorities responsible in each Member State for developing, producing and disseminating European statistics.
