After the birth of a child, working conditions differ between fathers and mothers

After the arrival of a child, many parents have to make adjustments in their working life. These changes are strongly differentiated by gender. For example, mothers of very young children reduce their working hours more frequently than fathers, which widens the pay gap against them. They also change jobs less often, which may restrict their career development. In addition, more mothers say they do not have enough time to do their work properly. Fathers, on the other hand, are more likely to increase their working hours after the arrival of a child, tend to work evenings or Sundays more often, and are also more likely to say that they are confronted with situations of tension at work, in which their individual room for manoeuvre does not allow them to cope with the demands they feel they face in their work.
