Migration surveys relating to overseas departments
Population migration to and from the French overseas departments takes many forms, of varying importance depending on the French overseas departments. A single survey cannot capture this diversity.
The situation must be apprehended in mainland France and in each of the French overseas departments: the system therefore covers two projects whose implementation on the ground will be postponed and calls for different sampling methods. But the questions asked will make it possible to reconcile the two investigations.
The questionnaires cover the chronology of migration and, at the same time, the stages of married and family life. For the other themes (training, employment, housing), we limit ourselves to describing the successive situations (before, during and, for Domians who returned to their original overseas departments, after the migration).
Some questions concern the possibility of future migration and relational networks.
The investigation includes:
-
a DOM project, carried out overseas in 1991, with migrants returning from mainland France, natives who have never migrated, metropolitan residents and foreigners;
-
a metropolis component, carried out in 1992 in seven regions (Ile-de-France, Centre, Alsace, Brittany, Aquitaine, Rhône-Alpes, Provence-Alpes-Côte d' Azur) with the natives of the French overseas departments.
