Since 1994, the survey has been conducted every 5 years and it makes up the variable module of the EPCV scheme for the month of October. Previously, the survey was conducted twice a year.

Data for the 2004 Holidays survey were collected in October 2004, and covered the reference period for the survey (from 1st October 2003 to 30th September 2004).

For each household the interview covers all departures and all holiday stays for all household members.

The survey has been conducted in 1994, 1999 and 2004.

The random housing sample is taken from the population census (RP 1999) and the new housing survey database (BSLN).

Depending on the years, between 5,700 and 7,600 households are questioned. In 2004, for example, about 5,900 households and 14,300 individuals were surveyed.
