Data collection

The survey was conducted only once, at the same time as the annual population census survey of 2011.
It differentiates from the previous similar survey, known as “ Study of family history " of 1999 by its questionnaire (cf. History).

The data collection was carried out through the so-called drop off and pick-up method. Four-page questionnaires were delivered by enumerators to all persons in the survey sample at the same time as the usual census documents(note, dwelling questionnaire, individual form). They were collected in the same conditions.

Sampling method

The sample of “Family and Housing” survey is a sample of households listed during the annual population census survey 2011. A sample of municipalities was constituted at first among the municipalities listed in 2011. Then, within these municipalities, a sub-sample of geographical areas was constituted. Finally, within these geographical areas, all adults of a given sex were investigated: all grown-up men were investigated in approximately one-third of the areas, and all grown-up women in the remaining parts. As in the past, the overweighting of women allows to update detailed fertility analysis.

360 000 completed questionnaires were eventually collected from just over 121 000 men and just over 238 000 women.
