Définition

A hypermarket is a self-service retail store deriving more than one-third of its sales from food and having a sales floor area of 2,500 m² or more.

Remarque

The sales areas differ according to States:

  • Belgium, Denmark, Spain, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Portugal 2 500 m2 and more;
  • Germany from 1 500 to 4 999 m2 and from 5 000 m2;
  • Ireland, Great Britain 2 323 m2 and more.
