Définition

The purpose of the general electoral roll, administered by INSEE, is to check that a person identified by their civil status is registered only once, on the electoral roll of one town. It is also intended to ensure that a person is able to vote. INSEE is required, on the basis of this register, to inform towns of any decline in electoral capacity.

Remarque

The general register of electors was last used during the 2017-2018 electoral revision. It is replaced by the single electoral register, which renews the procedures for registration on the electoral rolls and was introduced by Act No. 2016-1048 of 1 August 2016.
