From this publication onwards, INSEE releases a new building index: BT55 “Exterior insulation and finish system”. This new index is included in the calculation of the BT01 “All trades works” and BT50 “Renovation – All trades maintenance” indices, which are computed as weighted averages of the other building indices.
Furthermore, from this publication onwards, INSEE no longer releases the BT12 “Natural textile coatings” index.
Furthermore, from this publication onwards, the composition of the BT01 “All trades works” and BT50 “Renovation – All trades maintenance” indices is updated in order to take into account the creation of the BT55 index and the suppression of the BT12 index.
The new detailled composition of the building indices is detailed in the Documentation tab.

Definition
The Construction of buildings indices, Civil engineering indices, the Miscellaneous indices for construction and the index for updating material assets in construction are producer cost indices of different activities in the construction sector, mainly used for escalating contracts.
Calculation method
The methodological documentation is available on the “Documentation” tab.
Uses
Businesses and local authorities may use these official indices published in the Official Journal for escalating construction work bids, by selecting the activity that is closest to the subject of their bid. In contracts signed before the publication of the indices in the Official Journal of 16 January 2015 the former series have to be used until September 2014 inclusively, and, since October 2014 inclusively, the former series can be expanded by chain-linking it with the latter one. The result is to be rounded off to one decimal place.
