Insee PremièreInnovative companies in 2022 One in five innovative companies used a grant to innovate

Thomas Bergeron (Insee)

Between 2020 and 2022, 46% of companies employing 10 or more employees in the non-agricultural market sectors were innovative, a proportion similar to that observed between 2018 and 2020. Innovation was more common in processes (39%) than in products (19%).

Companies in the information and communication sector were the most innovative (74% of them), while innovation was less frequent in construction (32%).

To innovate, 18% of companies used public financial support, from both local authorities and national government bodies.

45% of companies believed that their innovations have had a significant environmental benefit. This most often involved a reduction in energy consumption and carbon footprint, but also a reduction in the consumption of materials and water during production and waste during use.
