over a year Costs of production indices in construction - second quarter 2024
In Q2 2024, the production costs in construction rose by 0.4% over a quarter, after +0.1% in the previous quarter. They bounced back in civil engineering (+0.7% after -0.5%) due to the rise of labour costs (+0.7% after +0.4%) and materials costs (+2.6% after -2.4%), partially offset by the fall of energy costs (-7.7% after -2.5%). Production costs sped up in building construction (+0.4% after +0.1%) and slightly in specialised construction works (+0.4% after +0.3%) which driven by miscellaneous costs (+0.9% after -0.2%)
Year on year, the production costs in construction continued to rise (+1.4%, as in previous quarter). They rose in building construction (+1.0%, as in previous quarter) as in civil engineering (+1.4% after +1.3%) and in specialized construction works (+1.4% after +1.5%).

graphiqueProduction costs in public works
Revision
For the first quarter of 2024, the quarterly change of the construction production cost index has been revised downwards by 0.3 points to +0.1%, instead of the +0.4% published in June 2024.
For further information
Monthly production cost indices are released every three months.
These indices aggregate the cost indices of six or seven factors of production: capital, labour, energy, materials, services, transport and wastes (only for public works).
These indices are subject to revision. They are primarily used as inputs for the national accounts and macroeconomics analyses.
Next issue: end of December 2024.
