In March 2024, consumer prices increased by 2.3% year on year Consumer price index - provisional results - March 2024
These provisional results are only preliminary data. Accordingly, they should not be used for contractual revaluations. The indices published here are based on a limited set of price observations and from estimates of some rates of change for fares which are not yet available. The complete results will be published on 12 April 2024.
Over a year, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) should rise by 2.3% in March 2024, after +3.0% in February, according to the provisional estimate made at the end of the month. This decrease in inflation should be due to the slowdown over one year in prices of food (+1.7% after +3.6% in February), services, tobacco, energy and manufactured products.
Over one month, consumer prices should decelerate in March 2024 (+0.2% after +0.9% in February). This slowdown should be due to the slight fall in prices of energy, in particular in gas and petroleum products. Contrariwise, the prices of manufactured products should accelerate, due to the seasonal rise in clothing prices after the winter sales. The prices of food and services should be stable over one month.
Year on year, the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices should rise by 2.4% in March 2024, after +3.2% in February. Over one month, it should slowdown (+0.3% after +0.9% in the previous month).

Definition: the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) is designed for comparison of consumer price inflation between Members States of the European Union. It is computed for all households in France. The main difference between HICP and CPI is about the health costs: HICP is based on net prices of social security reimbursements and CPI is based on gross prices.
