In January 2024, the prices of frequently purchased goods sold in hyper and supermarkets decreased by 0.3% over a month, after ‑0.2% in December. In large and predominantly food stores, these prices decreased by 0.3% over a month, after ‑0.2% in December.

Excluding hyper and supermarkets, prices were stable after ‑0.2% in December.

Considering all kinds of stores, the prices of frequently purchased goods decreased by 0.2% over a month, as in December.

Year on year, the prices of frequently purchased goods sold in hyper and supermarkets slowed down for the ninth consecutive month

Compared to those of the same month last year, the prices of frequently purchased goods sold in hyper and supermarkets slowed down for the ninth consecutive month: +4.5% in January 2024 over a year, after +5.9% in December. In large and predominantly food stores, prices rose also by 4.8% year on year, after +6.3% in December.

Excluding hyper and supermarkets, the prices of frequently purchased goods increased by 5.8% year on year, after +7.6% in December.

Considering all types of stores, the prices of frequently purchased goods rose by 5.0% year on year, after +6.5% in December.

Year on year, food prices in hyper and supermarkets accelerated again

Month on month, the prices of food and beverages (excluding fresh produces) sold in hyper and supermarkets decreased by 0.1% in January 2024, after ‑0.2% in December. Year on year, these prices slowed down for the ninth consecutive month: +5.2% in January, after +6.6% in December.

The prices of meat sold in hyper and supermarkets decreased by 0.6% month on month, after ‑0.2% in December. Year on year, they slowed down: +2.9%, after +4.6% in December.

The prices of beverages sold in hyper and supermarkets rebounded over a month: +0.3% after ‑0.1% in December. Year on year, they slowed down: +5.2%, after +6.0% in December.

The prices of “other food products” decreased by 0.1% over a month, after ‑0.2% in December. Year on year, these prices slowed down: +6.1%, after +7.6% in December.

Year on year, the prices of cleaning and personal care products slowed down again

Month on month, the prices of cleaning and personal care products sold in hyper and supermarkets decreased by 1.3% in January 2024 after ‑0.2% in December. Year on year, they rose by 1.0%, after +2.5% in December.
