In Q3 2023, house prices fell again (-1.0%) House price index - third quarter 2023
In Q3 2023, the house prices of metropolitan France fell by 1.0% compared to the previous quarter (provisional seasonally-adjusted data), after -0.7% in Q2 2023. The fall in prices of second-hand dwellings intensified (-1.1% compared with the previous quarter, after -0.8% in the second quarter). Prices of new dwellings declined (-0.3%, after -0.1%).
Year on year, house prices went down for the first time since Q3 2015 (-1.5% after +0.7%). This decline was driven by prices of second-hand dwellings (-1.8% after +0.5%). Prices of new dwellings were still up very slightly year-on-year, but slowed down markedly (+0.3%, after +1.9% in Q2 2023).
With effect from the publication of Q2 2023, and in accordance with European recommendations, the seasonally-adjusted price index for new and second-hand dwellings is calculated as the weighted average (by transaction values) of the Notaires-Insee seasonally-adjusted price index for second-hand dwellings and the seasonally-adjusted price index for new dwellings.
Fall in house prices was mainly driven by second-hand dwellings
