July 2023 · n° 1957Second estimates for 2022 Agricultural Accounts Rising prices for products and inputs
In 2022, the value of the agricultural production increased by 16.6%, in a global context of rising prices for energy, raw and agricultural materials.
The extremely hot and dry weather in the summer severely affected the cereal, protein crop, beet and potato harvests. Cereal production decreased by 11.0% in volume. In contrast, wine production increased by 34.9% in volume. As a result, vegetal production slightly increased in volume (+1.7%), but significantly in value (+17.4%) due to price developments. Animal production rose by 17.5% in value, due to the increase in prices, compensating for the drop in volumes.
Intermediate consumption in value rose by 15.7%, because of the soaring prices for animal feed, energy products and fertilisers. However, due to the strong increase in the value of production, the value added of the agricultural sector rose again significantly. Overall, according to the second estimates for the 2022 agricultural accounts, the gross value added at factor cost per worker would increase by 9.6% in real terms, after 13.1% in 2021.
