Tony Vuillemin (Insee)

In 2022, the average price of a MWh of electricity in industry rose by 45% compared with 2021, and that of a MWh of gas by 107%. The increase of the price of MWh varies greatly from one industrial establishment to another, depending on the type of contract and its duration. In 2022, 28% of industrial establishments renewed their contracts (of electricity or gas). Some of them were confronted with an explosion of the price of MWh: establishments with fixed-price contracts and those that renewed their contracts at the end of the year suffered the biggest price rises.

In order to cope with these price rises, establishments had to adapt: most of them reduced their margins or increased their selling prices in 2022. More establishments are planning to invest in 2023 or adapt their production methods in order to bear these costs over the longer term.
