Method for constructing the Tourism Satellite Account
The Tourism Satellite Account (TSA) is the main means of estimating the economic weight of tourism. It is based on a conceptual framework established by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), in collaboration with other international organizations, in order to improve the harmonization and comparison of statistics between countries. This framework is based on the principles of System of National Accounts.
This working paper explains the method for constructing the Tourism Satellite Account (TSA), which INSEE has been producing since 2020. It explains the aim and the framework for its production, and presents the various tables that it contains. It details the different sources, classifications and methods for estimating its main components, namely internal tourism consumption, tourism direct gross value added, and tourism direct gross domestic product.
