Building construction managers’ opinion about their past activity has degraded again
In February 2023, building construction managers’ opinion about their past activity has deteriorated. The corresponding balance of opinion has dropped again, but remains above its long term average. Regarding upcoming activity, the balance of opinion is stable, above its long term average.
Furthermore, slightly less business managers than in the previous month have considered the evolution of their company situation to be unpredictable. The balance of opinion on the economic uncertainty felt has decreased for the second month in a row.

Order books: stability
In February 2023, as many building contractors as in last month have considered the level of their order books to be higher than average. The corresponding balance remains at a level way above its long term average. Given their staff size, building contractors have considered that their order books provide them with 8.8 months of work, a duration also stable compared to the previous month.
Tensions on supply have kept on easing
In February 2023, the production capacity went slightly back: it stands at 92.2% but remains above its long term average (88.9%).
Nearly as many business managers as in the previous month have reported facing obstacles limiting their production (68%). The share of business managers who declared facing a workforce shortage (50%) has risen nonetheless whereas the proportion of those who declared supply difficulties (19%) has dropped significantly and has reached its lowest level since May 2021.
Slightly less than half of the companies (49%) have reported to be at the limit of their production capacity (production bottlenecks), that is to say that they could not produce more with their current means if they were to receive more orders. This share has dropped slightly for the third month in a row. 27% of business managers considered themselves unable to increase their production in case of additional orders due to a lack of personnel, 8% due to supply difficulties, both of which have fallen.
The balance of opinion regarding expected prices has dropped sharply
In February 2023, way less business managers than in the previous month have announced that they will increase their prices in the upcoming three months. The corresponding balance of opinion has gone back sharply and has reached its lowest level since March 2022. It remains however way above its long term average.
