Despite the health crisis, markup rates by sector of activity remained stable in 2020
Wholesale trade accounted for 52% of the markup of commercial units in 2020, ahead of retail trade (40%) and motor vehicle trade and repair (8%). The markup rate of commercial units remained stable between 2019 and 2020, despite the Covid-19 crisis and its consequences on economic activity. Its level varied greatly depending on the sector: 14% on average in motor vehicle trade and repair, 21% in wholesale trade and 30% in retail trade. Micro-enterprises had a higher markup rate than larger enterprises. For non-independent trade units, the markup rate also differed according to the main activity of their enterprise. Commercial units purchasing within their group had on average higher markup rates.
