The tourist demand survey (SDT) makes it possible to estimate the number of nights spent by residents of metropolitan France in all accommodation in metropolitan France, whether commercial or non-commercial, in the overseas departments and abroad, based on their declaration. Insee took over responsibility for the SDT survey in 2020 from the Direction Générale des Entreprises (DGE). It is carried out by an external service provider.

This working paper explains the adjustment methods used to improve the estimates from SDT, proposing an ex-post stratification of the data collected, as well as a correction for non-response. This recasting has led to an increase in the levels of the estimates compared with the statistics previously published by the DGE, but does not modify the analyses in terms of changes.

The first five parts describe the different methods used to calculate the five weight systems used in the survey. The sixth part summarises the different works. Finally, the last part revises the results and measures the impact of adjustments.
