Regional gross domestic product from 2000 to 2020 Some major disparities, from overseas regions to Île-de-France

In 2020, GDP per capita was 34,100 euros in France. It amounted to 57,600 euros in Île-de-France, compared with 29,200 euros in mainland France excluding Île-de-France and 20,200 euros in overseas regions. The high level of GDP per job in Île-de-France, linked to the presence of high value-added sectors, as well as the contribution of workers residing in other regions and the low proportion of elderly people, explained the gap in GDP per capita with other regions.

Leaving aside the year 2020, when the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic strongly but temporarily affected economic activity, GDP per capita increased in all regions between 2000 and 2019, particularly in the Antilles and Reunion island, where levels thus got closer of those of metropolitan regions.
