May 2022 · n° 1899The composition of household wealth has changed little following the health crisis
At the beginning of 2021, 89.2% of households living in France held financial products, 61.2% owned real estate and 16.2% had business assets.
Between 2018 and 2021, ownership of the main components of wealth remained almost stable. While the economic and health crisis linked to the Covid-19 pandemic led to a surplus of savings in 2020 and 2021, households favoured already-open assets for investment. There were nevertheless some shifts over the period: ownership of savings account “Livret A” stabilised after a significant decline over the previous period (2015-2018), ownership of life insurance and retirement savings increased, while regulated housing savings decreased.
