Insee FocusForeign-controlled enterprises employ 2.2 million people in France in 2019

Olivier Satger (Insee)

In 2019, in France, foreign-controlled enterprises employed 2.2 million people, including 44% in intermediate-sized enterprise (ETI) and 41% in large enterprises. Industry, business services (including temporary employment) and wholesale and retail trade account for four out of five jobs. Average personnel costs per person are higher there than in French firms. Foreign-controlled enterprises achieve 17% of the added value of all the mainly non-agricultural and non-financial market sectors. They earmark a less significant part of their added value to tangible investments than enterprises under French control, in part because they operate in sectors where the investment rate is relatively low.
