In November 2021, the industrial producer prices continued to accelerate over a month (+3.0% after +2.8% in October and +1.6% in September), as well as over a year (+16.3% after +14.3% and +11.1%). These were the highest increases recorded in the available data since January 1995. Prices of products sold on the home market accelerated also over a month (+3.5% after +2.9%), while those for the foreign markets slowed down (+1.6% after +2.2%).

Producer prices in the French industry: +3.0%
In November 2021, the industrial producer prices continued to accelerate over a month (+3.0% after +2.8% in October and +1.6% in September), as well as over a year (+16.3% after +14.3% and +11.1%). These were the highest increases recorded in the available data since January 1995. Prices of products sold on the home market accelerated also over a month (+3.5% after +2.9%), while those for the foreign markets slowed down (+1.6% after +2.2%).
HOME MARKET: +3.5%
In November 2021, the industrial producer prices for the home market accelerated over a month (+3.5% after +2.9%), driven up strongly by those of energy, while those of manufactured products slowed down (+0.5% after +1.5%). Over a year, the rise of industrial producer prices for the home market reached 17.4% in November 2021 (after +15.2% in October).
New strong rise of prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water
In November 2021, the prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water accelerated sharply over a month (+11.6% after +7.2% in the previous month). The prices of electricity, transmission and distribution services rose strongly over a month (+15.6% after +5.6%), due notably to the switch to the winter rate but also to the persistent rises of prices on the wholesale market. The prices of trade services of gas through mains decelerated but remained on an strong upward trend (+14.7% after +26.6%): regulated tariffs have been frozen but tensions on international markets persisted. Year on year, the rise in prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water soared: +38.0% in November 2021 (after +31.6% in October).
Persistent rise of prices of the “other industrial products”
The prices of the “other industrial products” were up by 1.0% in November 2021 over a month (after +1.1%), passing on the persistent increases in raw material prices. Prices rose especially for chemicals and chemical products (+4.6% after +3.1%), basic metals (+1.0% after +2.0%) and paper and paper products (+1.6% after +1.7%). Year on year, the prices of the “other industrial products” carried on the acceleration that started at the beginning of 2021: +11.6% in November 2021 (after +10.5% in October and +9.4% in September).
Acceleration of food and beverage prices
In November 2021, the food and beverage prices sped up over a month (+0.8% after +0.3%), driven notably up by those of processed and preserved meat (+2.3% after +0.3%) and prepared animal feeds (+2.4% after +0.4%). Year on year, the food and beverage prices were up by 3.8% (after +3.0%).
Slight backlash of refined petroleum product prices
In the wake of crude oil prices, the prices of refined petroleum fell back slightly over a month in November 2021 (–1.7% after +15.0%). Nevertheless, they soared over a year (+98.4% after +107.5% in the previous month).

In November 2021, the industrial producer prices for the foreign markets decelerated over a month (+1.6% after +2.2%). Over a year, they nevertheless continued to accelerate (+14.2% in November 2021 after +12.5% in October and +9.7% in September).
The prices of the “other industrial products” rose by 0.9% over a month (after +1.3%), mainly due to those of chemicals and chemical products (+2.0% after +1.8%). Year on year, the prices of the “other industrial products” were up by 13.9% in November 2021 (after +12.9% in the previous month).
The prices of transport equipment accelerated over a month (+0.5% after +0.2%) and over a year (+2.3% after +1.7%), as did those of food and beverages (+0.9% after +0.4% over a month; +5.4% after +4.3% over a year).
In the wake of crude oil prices, the prices of refined petroleum products fell back over a month (–2.4% after +14.0%) but remained on a very strong upward trend over a year (+97.0% after +113.0%).
At last, the prices of electrical, computer and electronic equipment and machinery were virtually stable over a month (+0.1% after +0.7%) and rose by 2.7% over a year (after +2.6% in the previous month).

Import prices of industrial products: –0.1%
In November 2021, the import prices of industrial products stabilized over a month (–0.1% after +3.2% in the previous month) but remained on an strong upward trend over a year (+19.8% after +20.6%). Those of manufactured products slowed down sharply over a month (+0.4% after +1.3%) and rose by 10.7% over a year (as in the previous month).
The prices of the “other industrial products” were up by 0.9% over a month (as in the previous month). Those of chemicals and chemical products accelerated slightly (+2.3% after +1.9%), in line with increases in raw material prices. On the contrary, prices decelerated for basic metals (+0.5% after +1.6%) and wearing apparel (+0.9% after +1.2%). Year on year, the prices of the “other industrial products” were up by 14.6% (after +13.9% in October).
The prices of coke and refined petroleum products fell back over a month (–3.2% after +12.2%) but remained on an strong upward trend over a year (+90.3% after +106.4%).
The prices of electrical, computer and electronic equipment and machinery rose by 0.3% over a month (after +0.5%) and by 3.5% over a year (after +2.9%).
Those of food, beverages and tobacco were up by 0.7% over a month (as in the previous month), and by 5.6% over a year (after +5.2%).
At last, the prices of transport equipment were virtually stable over a month (–0.1% after +0.5%) and decelerated over a year (+1.6% after +2.1%).

The producer price indices in industry measure the change of producer prices of goods and services, linked to a given industrial activity and sold on the home market or on the foreign markets.
The import price indices of industrial products measure the change of transaction prices of goods and services purchased by economic agents established on French territory to non-resident agents.
Calculation method
They are calculated on the basis of the results of the survey « Observation of prices in industry and services » (Opise), which is operated by INSEE.
