Since 2016, energy efficiency has been progressing in industry
In 2019, gross energy consumption in industry fell by 1.6% to 35.1 million tonnes of oil equivalent. Total energy costs fell more markedly (-6%) due to a drop in prices across all energy sources, except electricity. Hydrogen represented 0.8% of energy consumption, used almost exclusively by the chemicals industry.
Since 2016, gross energy consumption has fallen by 3.7% while activity has increased by 3.9%, attesting to an improvement in energy efficiency in the industry over the last few years.
