Insee Résultats- March 2022

The "Public finances" item introduces the leading indicators published by Insee relating to the general government accounts. It aims at satisfying the growing interest of a large audience for information on this topic (political decision makers, international organizations...). Its implementation follows the recommendations of the IMF formulated in a quality audit run in 2003.

Warning

Every year, at the end of March, Insee publishes a provisional evaluation of general government account. Number 81 of “General government national accounts - first results” describes the main changes for the year 2021. At that time, general government debt and deficit according to the Maastricht definition are notified to the European Commission, according to the excessive deficit procedure.

Tables showing the main aggregates relative to general government debt and deficit according to the Maastricht definition have thus been revised (since 1995 and 2009 respectively) to conform with the 2022-03-31 notification. These provisional tables are issued before the publication of the whole new national accounts campaign that will occur on 2022-05-30. Except for these provisional tables 3.101prov, 3.102prov, 3.103prov and 3.106prov and for Main aggregates of the general government accounts, other results stem from the last national accounts campaign published on 2021-05-28.
