Producer prices in French industry: stability
The industrial producer prices were stable in October 2020, after +0.3% in the previous month: those for the home market were virtually stable (+0.1% after +0.3%) while those for the foreign markets fell back (–0.3% after +0.5%). Year on year, the industrial producer prices decreased by 2.0% in October 2020 (after –2.1%).
HOME MARKET: +0.1%
The industrial producer prices for the home market were virtually stable in October 2020 (+0.1% after +0.3%). Those of manufactured products recovered slightly (+0.2% after –0.2%), while the prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water stabilized. Year on year, the industrial producer prices for the home market declined by 2.0% in October 2020 (after –2.3% in the previous month).
Rebound in food and beverage prices
In October 2020, the food and beverage prices grew by 0.4% (after –0.1%), driven up by those of preserved meat and meat products (+0.7% after +0.2%). Year on year, they were virtually stable (–0.1% after –0.2% in the previous month).
Rise in transport equipment prices
In October 2020, the prices of transport equipment sped up slightly over a month (+0.4% after +0.2%), driven up by those of motor vehicles (+0.9% after +0.4%). Year on year, the prices of transport equipment remained dynamic (+2.4% like in the previous month).
Virtual stability of prices of the “other industrial products”
The prices of the “other industrial products” were virtually stable in October 2020 (+0.1%), after remaining unchanged from July to September 2020. The prices of chemicals and chemical products rose by 0.4% (after +0.5%). Those of basic metals grew by 0.7% (after +0.6%). On the contrary, the other non-metallic mineral product prices fell by 0.3% (after +0.3%). Year on year, the prices of the “other industrial products” decreased by 1.5% in October 2020 (after –1.8% in the previous month).

Virtual stability in refined petroleum product prices
In the wake of crude oil prices, the prices of refined petroleum products stabilized in October 2020 over a month (+0.1% after –7.5%). They fell by 39.7% over a year (after –41.7%).

Virtual stability in prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water
In October 2020, the prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water stabilized (–0.1% after +1.9%). The prices of trade services of gas through mains sped up sharply (+9.7% after +6.4% ), in the wake of the increases observed on the spot market and a revaluation of regulated tariffs. On the contrary, the prices of electricity production and trade fell by 1.7% (after +2.0%), as a result of a more abundant supply due to the greater availability of the nuclear power plants. Year on year, the prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water fell by 0.5% in October 2020 (after –0.4% in the previous month).
FOREIGN MARKETS: –0.3%
In October 2020, the industrial export producer prices decreased by 0.3% (after +0.5%). The export prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water fell back sharply, in particular those of electricity, while the prices of manufactured products grew by 0.3% (after –0.1%). Year on year, the industrial export producer prices declined by 1.8% (after –1.5%).
In October 2020, the export prices of transport equipment grew by 0.4% over a month (after +0.3%), notably those of air and spacecraft and related machinery, and by 0.2% over a year (after +0.3%).
The export prices of refined petroleum products recovered slightly in October 2020 (+3.7% after –5.0%). Year on year, they fell by 33.7% (after –37.2%).
The export prices of the “other industrial products” decreased by 0.2% in October 2020 (after –0.3%): those of chemicals and chemical products recovered (+0.9% after –1.5%) while the prices of rubber and plastics products fell sharply (–2.0% after –0.1%). Year on year, the export prices of the “other industrial products” declined by 1.8% (after –2.6% in the previous month).
At last, the export prices of food products and beverages remained stable in October 2020 over a month, masking contrasting trends, and decreased by 1.0% over a year (after –0.7%).

Import price indices of industrial products: +0.1%
The import prices of industrial products stabilized in October 2020 (+0.1% after –0.2%), those of manufactured products were stable too. Year on year, the import prices of industrial products declined nevertheless by 4.2% (after –4.4% in the previous month).
In October 2020, the import prices for coke and refined petroleum products decreased by 0.8% over a month (after –7.7%) and dropped by 43.7% over a year (after –43.9%).
The import prices of food products, beverages and tobacco remained virtually stable in October 2020 (–0.1% after +0.1%) and decreased by 0.2% over a year (after –0.4%).
The import prices of “other industrial products” were also stable in October 2020 (after +0.1% in the previous month), the slight rise in the prices of chemicals and chemical products (+0.4% after a stability) was offset by the small declines in other product categories. Year on year, the import prices of “other industrial products” declined by 1.8% (after –1.7%).
