Over-occupied housing, isolated elderly people… different lockdown protocols depending on the region
Lockdown measures put in place since 17 March 2020 affect populations in different ways, depending on the type of housing occupied or the composition of the household. Five million people lived in housing with an insufficient number of rooms. In addition, ten million people lived alone, including 2.4 million aged 75 or over. Certain populations may be more vulnerable during the lockdown, such as single-parent families with young children in overcrowded housing or elderly people living alone in rural areas far from supermarkets. While digital technology can open doors to an improved business and social life and enables people to stay in touch with friends and family, it is less available to people who are elderly or with few qualifications as they have limited Internet access and struggle more often to gain access to the technology.
