In 2018, in the hospital public service, average net wage decreased by 1.0% in real terms
In 2018, an employee in the hospital public service received an average net monthly wage of 2,308 euros per full-time equivalent; this average includes all public employees in hospitals and medical social institutions, whether they were civil servants, contract workers or medical staff. In nominal terms, the average net wage rose by 0,9% compared to 2017. With the resurgence of inflation, the average net wage decreased by 1.0% in real terms.
The average net wage of civil servants in the hospital public service decreased by 1.2% in real terms. For non-civil servants, it decreased more moderately (–0,6%), mainly due to the drop in the number of subsidized contracts, less paid on average. Medical personnel’s net wage was virtually stable (–0,1%).
In 2018, wage disparities in the hospital public service increased slightly, the highest wages decreasing less than the others in real terms. Women's net wages were 20.8% lower than men’s. With the same profile, the gap was 3.7%.
For employees present throughout both years 2017 and 2018 with the same employer and the same work quota, i.e. nearly two thirds of employees in the hospital public service, the average net wage was stable in real terms.
