First estimates of agricultural income in 2016
In 2016, the value of agricultural output, including subsidies, draws back sharply : the decline in volume is amplified by the decrease in prices. The value of crop production declines because of the decline in volume, in particular for cereals (- 23.9 %) and to a lesser extent wine (- 9.0 %) ; for cereals, in a context of abundant harvests worldwide, the price also decreases markedly (- 9,2 %). The animal output decrease is due to the fall in prices, in particular milk price (- 7.0 %).
At the same time, farmers’ expenses go down for the third year in a row. However, this decrease doesn't balance the output fall. As a consequence, the agricultural added value draws back significantly. Agricultural labour keeps declining as well. In total, according to the first estimate of the agriculture account, the gross added value at factor cost per worker draws back by 10.9 % in 2016.
