In 2019, the value of agricultural output falls by 2 %. This decrease comes from crop production being penalized by the strong decline in that of wine (- 13.7 %). Meanwhile, the rise in volumes of cereals hardly offsets their decrease in prices. In contrast, the value of animal production rises, due to the sharp increase in world pork prices.
Meanwhile, farmers' expenses moderatly rise (+ 0.7 %), owing to a slight decrease in volume and a modest rise in the prices of inputs. Then, the decrease in production combined with the increase in expenses leads to a marked decline in the gross value added of the agricultural sector. In addition, agricultural employment keeps decreasing. O verall, according to the estimations of the provisional account of agriculture, gross value added at factor cost per worker would decrease by 5.9 % in 2019, in real terms, after a rise by 7.0 % in 2018.
