In 2019, activity in the commercial sectors accelerates. In wholesale trade, sales is accelerating, particularly in capital goods and household goods trade. In retail trade, sales are buoyant, except in retail sale in non-specialised stores with food predominating, particularly in large food stores. Finally, motor trade rebounds in 2019, after a year affected by changes in anti-pollution standards.
At the beginning of 2020, commercial activity is disrupted by the health crisis due to Covid-19. General food shops see their demand increase sharply in March and April and adapt the job accordingly. While non-food shops are almost at a standstill. The crisis has accentuated certain trends already at work: the development of online sales and the decline of hypermarkets.
