In 2017, France had a total of 21,300 enterprises specialising in accounting, bookkeeping, auditing activities and tax consultancy. They make 19.1 billion euros in turnover, two thirds was generated by 2,200 enterprises consisting of several legal units structured as groups. Because of developments in accounting standards and the growing need for businesses to outsource their accounting, the activity is increasing. Enterprises operating in the sector focus mainly on their core business, i.e. accounts, management control and consulting. They generate high added value, which is mainly used to pay for labour. 9% of total activity within the sector is outsourced, particularly at the end of accounting periods.
