In 2018, employment in France grew at a slower pace: +225,000 after +338,000 in 2017, despite the acceleration in self-employment. Employment was mainly driven by the commercial services sector, a slight recovery in construction and an increase in industry. The slowdown in the non-market services sector continued.

In 2018, employment was no longer increasing everywhere: it had fallen in Reunion Island, Burgundy-Franche-Comté, Centre-Val de Loire and Grand Est. On the other hand, it was particularly dynamic in Corsica, Guadeloupe and French Guiana.
