In 2016, 45% of young people aged 15 to 34 who have completed their studies and are employed believe that their studies are very useful in performing the tasks required in their work. In contrast, 33% consider their studies to be very little or not at all useful in their current work.

As well as the chances of access to employment, the sense of usefulness of education increases overall with the level of education: among young people in employment, 14% of those who have at most the "brevet des collèges" (GCSE equivalent) consider their studies very useful for their employment; this share is 38% for secondary school graduates and 57% for university graduates. The feeling also depends on the field of specialization of the studies followed and the level of qualification of the job held.

Of those who feel that their education does not help them at all in their job, almost a quarter want to have another job. This share is twice as low for those who consider their studies very useful.
