On all markets (French market and foreign markets), producer prices in industry bounced back in July 2019 (+0.5% after –0.6% in June). The recovery involved both prices for the French Market (+0.4% after –0.6% in June) and for foreign markets (+0.4% after –0.5% in June). Year on year, producer prices in industry remained stable in July 2019.

FRENCH MARKET: +0.4%
In July 2019, French producer prices in industry for the French market recovered (+0.4%) after the past decreases since April 2019. The prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water grew anew (+1.3% after –0.1%) and those of manufactured products recovered (+0.2% after –0.8%). Year on year, French producer prices in industry for the French market stabilized in July 2019 (after +0.2%).
Rise in prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water
The prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water increased by 1.3% in July 2019 (after –0.1%). Electricity production and trade prices sped up (+4.9% after +0.8%), due to the heatwave which caused higher demand and limited production. On the contrary, gas selling prices kept declining (–4.8% after –2.4% in June), following the decrease in regulated fares. Those of steam and air conditioning supply kept also declining (–3.6% after –3.3%). Year on year, the prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water slowed down in July 2019 (+0.8% after +1.8%).
Recovery in prices of refined petroleum products
In the wake of oil prices, the prices of refined petroleum products picked up in July 2019 (+4.1% after –10.5%). Year on year, they kept declining (–6.9% after –9.8%).

New fall in prices of “other industrial products”
The prices of “other industrial products” decreased by 0.2% in July 2019, like in June. Chemical product prices kept falling but at a more moderate pace (–0.6% after –1.6%), following the past decreases of oil and gas prices. Wearing apparel prices fell back also strongly (–3.7% after +0.2%), owing to summer sales. Year on year, the prices of “other industrial products” declined sligthly in July 2019 (–0.2% after +0.1% in June).
Virtual stability in food and beverage prices
In July 2019, food and beverage prices were virtually stable over one month (+0.1% after +0.5%) and remained dynamic year over year (+1.2% after +1.4%).

FOREIGN MARKETS: +0.4%
The producer prices of French industrial products on foreign markets recovered in July 2019 (+0.4% after –0.5%), especially owing to the strong rise in electricity prices during the heatwave, whereas those of manufactured products were virtually stable (+0.1% after –0.3%). Refined petroleum product export prices bounced back sharply (+3.9% after –8.1%) but remained down year over year (–6.5% after –9.7%). Export transport equipment prices grew by 0.4%, following the appreciation of the dollar against the euro. The export prices of “other industrial products” decreased in July 2019 (–0.2% like in June), as those of food and beverages (–0.5% after a stability in June). Year on year the export prices of “other industrial products” were virtually stable in July 2019 (–0.1% after –0.3%).

Import price indices of industrial products: +0.2% In July 2019
In July 2019, the import prices of industrial products bounced back slightly (+0.2%), after a strong fall in June (–1.4%). In the wake of the oil price, imported coke and refined petroleum product prices increased anew (+3.3% after –10.1% in June). The import prices of “other industrial products” were stable over one month (after –0.1%) and decreased by 0.3% year over year (after –0.1%). Food product, beverage and tobacco prices decreased by 0.2% over one month (after a stability in June) and got worse year over year (–0.7% after –0.4%). Year on year, the import prices of industrial products continued to decline in July 2019 (–1.3% after –1.2%).
