For further information:

In July 2019, the prices of frequently purchased goods in hyper and supermarkets and in large and predominantly food stores rose by 0.1% as in June.

Excluding hyper and supermarkets, after a stability in the previous month, they slightly decreased for the first time since May 2016.

Considering all kinds of stores, the prices of frequently purchased goods were stable, after +0.1% in June.

Year on year, excluding hyper and supermarket, further slowdown in prices

Compared with the same month last year, the prices of frequently purchased goods sold in hyper and supermarkets grew by 1.9% in July, as in June. In large and predominantly food stores, the prices rose a little more than in the previous month (+1.9% after +1.8%).

In the other kinds of stores, the prices of frequently purchased goods slowed down for the third consecutive month: +1.8% year on year in July after +2.1% in June and +2.3% in May. In July, they increased a little less markedly than in hyper and supermarkets, whereas they had been more dynamic since August 2011.

Considering all types of stores, the prices of frequently purchased goods rose by 1.9% year on year in July, as in June.

Over a month, slight rise in food prices in hyper and supermarkets

In July 2019, the prices of food (excluding fresh products) sold in hyper and supermarkets rose by +0.1% compared to the previous month, as inJune. Year on year, they increased at the same pace as in the previous month (+2.3%).

This slight rise in prices over a month only resulted from that in meat prices while the prices of beverages and other food products were stable.

The prices of meat sold in hyper and supermarkets were a little more dynamic than in the previous month: +0.5% after +0.4% in June. Year on year, they sharply accelerated: +2.8% after +2.3%.

The prices of beverage sold in hyper and supermarkets were stable in July, as in June. Year on year, their rise was a little less pronounced than in June: +2.7% after +2.9%.

After a little rise in May and June (+0.1%), the prices of other food products (excluding fresh food) were unchanged in July. Year on year, they increased a little less than in the previous month (+1.9% after +2.0% in June).

Stability in the prices of cleaning and personal care products in hyper and supermarkets

The prices of cleaning and personal care products sold in hyper and supermarkets were stable in July, after an increase of 0.1% in June. Year on year, the prices of these products barely accelerated: +0.2% after +0.1% in the previous month.
