In 2018, household consumption slows more sharply than purchasing power
In 2018, household disposable income slows slightly in real terms (+1.2%, after +1.4%): acceleration of gross disposable income in current euros (+2.7%, after +2.2% in 2017) does not completely compensate for that of prices (+1.5%, after +0.8%). Consumer spending slows more sharply: +0.9% in volume, after +1.4% in 2017 so that the savings rate increases by 0.3 points to 14.2% of the gross disposable income.
Consumption of tobacco, food, alcoholic beverages and clothing is falling in volume. Conversely, accommodation and catering remain very dynamic and transport spending, while decelerating, contributes positively to the growth of consumption.
