Earned income of self-employed persons in 2016 The increase continues in most economic sectors
At the end of 2016, 3.2 million people are self-employed in France, including 0.4 million in the agricultural sector. Excluding the agricultural sector, 31% of self-employed persons are micro-entrepreneurs. Between 2015 and 2016, the number of micro-entrepreneurs grew strongly again and the number of other (and so called “traditional”) self-employed persons fell for the third consecutive year.
In 2016, traditional self-employed persons in non-agricultural sectors received an average of €3,340 per month, from €1,120 in retail trade, excluding stores, to €8,620 for doctors and dentists. In a given sector, women earn on average one third less than men. Micro-entrepreneurs earned an average of 450 euros monthly from their work. Between 2015 and 2016, the average earned income of micro-entrepreneurs increased by 3.4%, while that of traditional self-employed persons grew by 2.7%. These increases concern almost all economic sectors.
