Over the past decade, quality of life, measured by some twenty indicators covering more than ten dimensions (income, health, employment, housing, access to services, etc.), has evolved differently according to territory. For half of the indicators, the dynamics reflect a global trend towards convergence of territories, but some local trends point towards an increase in spatial disparities.

Thus, in 11% of the territories, initially in an unfavourable position, the quality of life has further deteriorated since the early 2000s. This finding has its origin in the aggravation of social difficulties. The territories concerned are often located in former industrial regions. Conversely, in an equivalent number of territories, in a rather favourable situation, the quality of life has improved. These are often territories located close to dynamic metropolises in demographic and economic terms.
