Trade activity continued to improve in 2016. Motor trade sales increased (+6.7% in volume). A rise in new car sales, already observed in 2015, kept up in 2016. In wholesale trade, activity accelerated in most sectors, particularly in computer trade. Retail sales once again increased in volume, but at a slightly slower pace than in 2015 (+1.2%). Mail order and online sales are very dynamic, driven by e-commerce. In value terms, sales in value rose in the three main sectors of trade, for the first time since 2011.
