Wages in the regional public service In 2016, average net wages increased by 0.4% in real terms
In 2016, a regional civil service employee received an average net monthly wage of €1,902 per equivalent full-time post; this average figure included all local authority employees, taking all jobs and categories combined, whether or not they were civil servants. Between 2015 and 2016, the average net wage rose by 0.4% in real terms. For a given grade and employment group, the increase was greater, with a regional civil service employee in 2016 earning on average 0.6% more than in 2015.
Civil servants accounted for almost 80% of regional civil service employees, based on equivalent full-time posts. Their average net wages increased by 0.5% in real terms. It was stable for non-civil servants, including employees on subsidised and apprentice contracts.
The average net wage was €1,803 per month in the municipalities and €2,116 in the départements. Wage disparities in the regional civil service were virtually stable in 2016. On average, women's net wages were 9.1% less those for men, the gap being 9.3% in 2015. With identical characteristics, the difference was 4.6%, as in 2015.
In 2015 and 2016, employees working the whole year for the same employer and with the same work quota — i.e. almost two out of three employees in the state civil service — saw their average net wages increase by 1.1% in real terms. This reflects their increasing seniority and their career progression.
