Housing stock in France as at 1 January 2017
As at 1 January 2017, the housing stock in France, excluding Mayotte, amounted to 35.7 million housing units. In mainland France, 82% of housing units were main places of residence, and 56% were individual housing units. 16% of all main places of residence were found in Paris, while 42% of secondary places of residence were located in rural municipalities. In the overseas departments, housing stock grew more quickly than in mainland France, by approximately 2.5% on average for the past thirty years, compared to 1.1% in mainland France.
