In 2014 the volume of energy consumed by the industrial sector was the same as it had been in 2013, down 19% on the total recorded for 2005. This trend mirrors the downward arc of manufacturing output. Total spending on energy continues to fall (-5% in Euros at fixed value) due to the declining prices of coal, oil products and gas. Gross energy consumption stood at 35.4 million tonnes of oil equivalent, at a total cost of 15.2 billion Euros. Gas and electricity remain the most widely-used energy sources.
