43 million voters in France
At the end of February 2011, 43.2 million French people were registered on the electoral rolls in France. In the course of 2010, 1.7 million registrations were recorded. A third of these were young people aged 18, via the automatic registration procedure. The other registrations were most often linked to relocations. With the prospect of the 2012 presidential election, the number of registrations was probably two to three times greater than in autumn 2011 and may have reached 5 million. One million French people living outside France were registered on consular electoral rolls.
