In 2009, the average full-time equivalent (FTE) wage of a person working in the private or semi-public sector was 2,708 euros a month gross and 2,042 euros net of all deductions at source. In constant euros, average net wages increased at a slower pace in 2009 than in 2008 (+1.3% compared to +3.3%). Taking into account the very low inflation (+0.1%) and despite the ongoing economic crisis, average net wages nevertheless increased more in 2009 than in 2008 in constant euros: +1.2% after 0.4%. Wage ranges remained stable overall; but the highest wages (99th percentile) decreased by 1.1%. In FTE, women’s wages rose more than men’s but remained lower by 20% on average.
