In 2012, 56% of the population of Metropolitan France made online purchases, against just 32% in 2007. Purchases of goods and services are among the main uses of the internet. Frequent internet users make more online purchases. Those buying online are mainly young people, graduates and senior managers, although the trend is gradually spreading to all population categories, whatever their age, educational background and profession. Each purchaser generally focuses their buying on a small number of goods, with clothing, transport tickets, hotel bookings and holiday packages being the most widespread purchases.
